Challenge #280 - Christmas in July

Team mate LeAnne came up with a unique Fill in the Blank challenge this week. It's the last week in July but most crafters have their sights turning toward Christmas crafting starting about now. We want to know what kind of Christmas stamping you like to do most in the summer? Cards? Home décor? Gifts? Craft Fair Novelties? Ornaments? Let us know by filling in the blank in the Challenge Banner.

For a Fill in the Blank Challenge, you complete the sentence by filling in the blank, then you make your project based on the words you used to fill in the blank. How would you fill in this blank? Now, take on the challenge of making something amazing with it!

And make sure to tell us, in your blog post, how you Filled in the Blank!

Here are our winners:

Our Top Pick is: Jolanda Johnstone

top pick

Jolanda not only used our colours in a unique way, but she went out of her way to add a lot of interesting texture to her project as well. Check out the tire tread marks and the tires themselves to see what I mean. Then there's the playful background and the pennants! When you add in the appropriate lovely sentiment, the whole creation was one of the favourites of the Design Team!

Our Featured Artist is: Mary Deatherage

As Featured Artist this week, Mary will also be invited to be our next Guest Designer! We loved that she used ink blending to turn the Challenge colours into a tropical sunset, with the images used in silhouette overtop. And we loved how the circular frame was created, stamped on Basic White, then die cut so some of the images were outside the margin, mounting the inside circle flat and popping the outside panel up on dimensionals. What a great way to create focus! Mary's ink blending with our colours is impeccable and use of the lighter colours in the card layers works wonders!

Congratulations, Mary, you will be our next Guest Designer for our Recipe Challenge in 2 weeks time. We will be in touch!

Challenge #279 - Sunset Symphony

I remember a camping trip on the west coast of Vancouver Island on a beautiful Pacific shore called Long Beach. Each night, there were such spectacular sunsets that people just came out and stood silently on the beach while the sun set, then went back to their activities, speaking in hushed tones. It was like being in a great cathedral or listening to a soaring symphony. It stirred you and all your senses. It was the first thing I thought of when I saw the inspiration photo for this colour palette, so I've named this colour challenge Sunset Symphony!

Each time we have a colour challenge, the Featured Artist will have a chance to become a Guest Designer for our next Recipe Challenge 4 weeks from now. So enter with that in mind! We're so excited to work with you for a challenge!!

Remember, if you don't have the Stampin' Up! colours, use the colours you have that are the closest. Your project should use all these colours only and 1 neutral. (Neutrals include black, white, vanilla or Crumb Cake.)

Winners for Challenge #278 - Three to Get Ready

Our sketch challenges aim to give you a framework to enhance your creativity! There was so much you could do with our last sketch with circles (or any other shape) of three! We enjoyed all the variety and imagination.

Without further ado, I want to introduce you to our winners! Here they are:

aysi top pick badge

Our Top Pick is: Yvon of Blue Heart Stamping

top pick

We all know the frustration of trying to leave a comment and being confronted with the dreaded "captcha" icon! Well, Yvon has captured that perfectly in her card design! Instead of circles, she used squares representing mini keyboards and linked them together with the cute sentiment using twine! The Design Team loved her clever concept, the colours and textures she used and the care with which she assemble her card entry! Definitely could NOT be made by a robot!

Our Featured Artist is: Laurel Seabrook

featured artist

The Design Team was collectively amazed by Laurel's beautiful summer themed card! She used beach items as her three elements and a beach towel as the tilted layer underneath, (which we thought was genius)! We loved her colour choices and the paper choices, as well, and the way she framed the front panel. The piece de resistance, however, was the addition of the stitched waves in, under and around all the elements of the sketch, really topping off the beachy feel of the whole project! Anyone for a day at the seashore? Congrats on a creative and well-produced entry, Laurel!

Challenge #278 - Three to Get Ready

It's a sketch challenge this week and I love the direction that I get with a sketch! Design Team member Heather H. came up with a lovely sketch that gives you guidance but let's you be creative at the same time! The three circles made me think of the rhyme: "One for the money, two for the show, Three to get ready...." What shape will you use for the circles? Will you be traditional or play it loose with the sketch? Let's see what you come up with!

Feel free to rotate or flip the sketch, just keep the integrity of it, so we can recognize it.

What did the Design Team do with the sketch? Check out their projects:
