Challenge #302 - Build with the Basics

This next sketch challenge is a beauty! I've titled it Build with the Basics because it's simple but there's so much you can do with it. A circle in the center and a rectangle or stripe down the middle: that's the basics, right? This was designed by Team Member Jan, who is really good at coming up with sketches that allow the maximum freedom and creativity.

Feel free to rotate or flip the sketch, just keep the integrity of it, so we can recognize it.

And how did the Design Team build with the basics? Check out their projects:

Winners for Challenge #301 - Swift Seashells

What is it about seashells that is so appealing? Whatever it is, it seemed to attract many of you to get your adrenaline flowing for our Speed Stamping challenge over the last two weeks. As a member of the Design Team, besides being able to admire your beautiful cards, I really love reading your blog posts, especially for the speed stamping challenges! I can just feel the tension as you work to finish your timed masterpieces, and I am in awe! Well done! Also, a warm welcome to the many new crafters who have found our challenge in recent weeks!

Now on to our winners for this challenge!

Our Top Pick is: Christine from Scrapacrolles

top pick

Christine used some beautiful designer paper to form her background for this speed stamping challenge - which is a great technique for a challenge of this kind! Then she found some pre-die cut seashells from her scrap pile and other nautical symbols to add to her feature panel that are so cute and whimsical they immediately grab your attention! When you add to that a couple of bold, cute sentiments and some eye-catching embellishments and you have a really cute seashell card completed in 7 minutes and 30 seconds! Perfect!

Our Featured Artist is:  Stephanie L.

Stunning simplicity are the words I would use to describe Stephanie's entry! The focal point is one embossed image in white on a kraft background and it is so effective, it was a near unanimous choice for the Design Team, which almost never happens! The sentiment is embossed in navy and with the red and white striped baker's twine adorning the top, it creates a real nautical feel for the whole card! The depth of the white embossed image is what creates that spectacular look and it is perfect to use for a speed challenge, so Stephanie could create her project in 8 minutes and 27 seconds, well within the 10 minute limit. Congratulations!

Challenge #301 - Swift Seashells

For this challenge we are doing a Speed Stamping Challenge and the theme for the challenge, created by Design Team member Heather H, is Seashells! So you are making a card depicting seashells in some way, very swiftly. To get your adrenaline pumping, create a card or other project, in under 10 minutes, that illustrates the theme of the shells! Please let us know how long it took you to make it in your description.

When we do a speed challenge we are not expecting a detailed masterpiece from you. We want you to have fun and see what you can create in under 10 minutes! You can design it in your head or sketch it out first. You can gather all your supplies ahead of time. But once you start the cutting/stamping/die cutting/embossing /etc. process, you must start the timer!

challenge 301

You have 10 minutes!
Let us know, with your entry, how long it took you to complete your card or project! The key is to KISS!! Keep It Simple, Stamper!

Now we'll see what our Design Team did with the theme in under 10 min.:

Challenge #300 - Celebrate the 300th Adventure!!

Wow! We've reached 300 Challenges! What a milestone that is! We've had a lot of fun in 300 challenges, but also a few trials including a stretch where our original website was hacked and destroyed and we were without our site and graphics for a period of many months. We almost didn't start up again, but the fun won out and here we are! We really want to celebrate this adventure, and that means that YOU have a chance at winning some prizes!

For this Challenge only, Challenge #300, each of our 6 Design Team members will choose a winner, which makes 6 winners altogether. Then each winner will be shipped a stamp set from Stampin' Up! or Clarity, depending on the market they are in, and donated by the Design Team. While we have a set in mind, if the winner already owns that set, they may choose an alternative of equal value. To be eligible, all conditions and rules of the challenge must be adhered to. Watch how many challenges you enter with the same card. You are only allowed 3 other compatible challenges!

Winners for Challenge #299 - Recipe for Framed Flowers in Blue

Thanks to all the testers who tried out our Recipe Challenge last week! The wonderful variety of entries we had was incredible. It was interesting to see everyone's interpretation of the word "frame", and those blossoms were gorgeous, as were all the shades of blue! We loved every minute, but we had to duke it out to choose the winners! Now, here are the winners of As You See It Challenge #299:

We had a tie for Top Pick!

aysi top pick badge

Our first Top Pick is: JoAnn B.

top pick 1

JoAnn's lovely textured oval frame caught our eye as did her beautiful blue two-step stamped blooms! She used an embossed background for interest, and that sweet little twine bow at the top of the frame just adds the perfect finishing touch. Beautiful work, JoAnn.

Our second Top Pick is: Sandy C. at carsan_cards21

Sandy's beautiful blooms are stunning and really grab the attention. She's used ink blending to vary the intensity of the colour on her monochromatic bouquet with amazing results. We loved her paper pierced die cut background as well as that sweet little bow on her tag. Sandy, it's a feast for the eyes!

And our Featured Artist this week:

Our first Featured Artist is: Bronwyn Eastly

First of all, the Design Team was intrigued by Bronwyn's double z fold design with a floating window! What an incredible fun fold card that is! Secondly, that frame is so cool and it's mirrored on the sentiment behind it in the window! Last, but not least, those daisy die cuts are embossed and layered and look incredible. We also loved Bronwyn's choice of patterned paper and ribbon! What a gorgeous card and definitely worthy of Featured Artist!
