Challenge #201 - Pivotal

As I pondered what to call our 201st challenge, I studied the sketch and realized that everything pivoted around the doily or circle at the bottom! Then I realized the significance of that title in regards to the Challenge Blog itself.
Going forward, past our 200th challenge things will be slightly different, so Challenge #201 is a pivotal challenge.
With the retirement of Amanda, our Designer Emeritus, the crew is taking on the task of designing the weekly challenges on a rotating basis. In addition, we've decided to use a regular rotation of six styles of challenge. In future, you'll be seeing a sketch, a colour challenge, a fill-in-the-blank, a recipe (where you're given ingredients you have to use), a theme and finally a speed challenge. Then back to the beginning.
Our team leader, Heather, has started the ball rolling with this sketch challenge.

Let's see how the Design Team interpreted this pivotal sketch:

Here are some guidelines for the challenge:

  • Create any card, scrapbooking page, 3D project or packaging   project that fits the challenge.
  • Feel free to flip or rotate the sketch and to substitute one   shape for another but we must still be able to see the sketch   in your finished submission.
  • Please include the challenge graphic and link back to the   challenge in your blog post. Turn off word verification so we   can send you lots of feedback. Make sure you link the post not the whole blog to the Linky. Use #AYSI201when uploading to a public gallery.
  • If you’re unsure about ‘the rules’, check the details under the Challenge Guidelines tab.

Winners for Challenge #200

That's it, folks! Our 200th Challenge has come and gone! It was fun while it lasted and I hope you loved celebrating with us as much as we loved having you join us for the party! Remember, for this special 200th challenge the winner of the Featured Artist prize this time around will be chosen to be a Guest Designer with us for Challenge #202! So we will need to collect your contact info if that happens to be you! So without further ado, here are the winners:

Our Top Pick is: Cindy Major

Cindy was right into the spirit of our theme challenge! Not only did she have two wine glasses in a celebration card, but she even entered our challenge twice! Talk about twosies!! The Design Team loved the gorgeous texture in Cindy's card with the background papers that look like bubbles and gold silk, respectively! And then she upped it a notch and made one of her glasses a shaker element! Wowsers! Way to go, Cindy!

And our Featured Artist is: Heather Heroldt

We're so happy to have Heather Heroldt as our Featured Artist for our 200th Challenge! Those two adorable hot air balloons showcase the new In Colours from Stampin' Up! beautifully and she has created a lovely, muted design! We loved the pairs of balloons and birds, in keeping with our theme of celebrate two and all the extra touches added by Heather, including the embossing paste clouds and the sequins. The sentiment is such an inspiring one, and we'd like to lift Heather up by offering her a Guest Designer spot for our Challenge #202, so Heather please send me an email with your contact info so that we can connect.

Congratulations to our winners and thanks to everyone who played along! Our winners can pick up their badges on this page and display them with pride on their blogs or sites.

Please join us tomorrow for a a new challenge, a sketch challenge right here. It's the first one that we designed ourselves!

As You See It Challenge #200 - Celebrate Two!!

This is a pretty big deal for us this week! It's our 200th Challenge and let me tell you, there were times along the way in this journey when we didn't think we'd ever get there! We made it to Challenge #141 as a weekly challenge, when we were hacked badly and our data was completely corrupted. We almost gave up at that point, but 5 or 6 months later, we started over with a new platform and just our artwork and we were able to continue on as a biweekly challenge!

This 200th Challenge has been another turning point for us, as our Challenge creator and designer Amanda Turner, who is no longer as involved with stamping and card making, has stepped down as our designer. We have had to decide whether or not to fold the challenge or to keep going by designing our own challenges, having had Amanada's mentoring for six years now! We've decided to keep going and to design our own challenges, keeping the spirit of AYSI to the best of our abilities. We would like to express our heartfelt thanks to Amanda for her unique design talents that have kept us going since 2013 and always challenged us to be our creative best! We wish her all the best in her new endeavors as she puts her many abilities to use in the community and with her family. Please leave her some love in the comment section.

This will also be the last challenge for one of our original design team members, Tara Angus. Tara has been with us since the beginning, but her passion right now is to be politically active in her country and community and she will need all her energy focused in that direction for the foreseeable future! We will miss Tara's artistic eye and her cheerful input on our design team and wish her great success as she seeks to make a difference in a new way!

All that being said: This is a theme challenge and the theme is TWO! Two in honour of our 200th challenge, and a little bit of celebration thrown in there as well!

Special Prize!!
And there is more at stake than the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat for this challenge! The Featured Artist chosen from this challenge will be given the opportunity to be a Guest Designer for our Challenge #202!!
Phew! Now, let's see the Design Team tackle the terrible twos:

Winners for Challenge #199

Well, it wasn't quite the hottest spot north of Havana here at As You See It Challenges, but we did score some pretty sweet entries from our Copacabana colour challenge!  Here are the winners:

Our Top Pick is:  Nancy at Nananas

That stunning flower was the breathtaking focus of Nancy's sweet card and it looks as though it was just made to pair with the designer paper in the background. Nancy managed to use the strong colours in the challenge without them overpowering each other to create a crisp, fresh and delightful design!

And our Featured Artist is: Joanne James

Joanne made good use of her dark and light Stampin' Blends alcohol markers to put the brakes on the intensity of these colours in this beautiful birthday card. Using a large single image stamp in the darkest ink of the challenge, she colours in the image with the lighter tones for the most part, except for the sentiments, creating a focal point. Even with the bright and cheery background, her colouring manages to walk that fine balanced line and creates a masterpiece of tropical pinks and yellows that would do the Copacabana proud!!

Congratulations to our winners and thanks to everyone who played along! Our winners can pick up their badges on this page and display them with pride on their blogs or sites.

I'm issuing a special invitation to everyone to join us tomorrow for a very special challenge - our 200th Challenge!! There will be some special features for this occasion so don't miss the surprises!
