Challenge #222 - Recipe for Whimsy

A lot of people are sheltering in place at home these oh, so strange days, to prevent the spread of COVID-19, and have taken up all kinds of hobbies just to keep them from going crazy! Many are cooking and baking for the first time and in honour of that, we have a Recipe Challenge for you today, concocted by Design Team member, Jan Clothier. And I'm calling the challenge "Recipe for Whimsy"! Have fun with it! Remember your project has to contain every element from the challenge banner, but how you do that is up to you:

Let's see what the Design Team has whimsically cooked up:

Here are some guidelines for the challenge:

  • Create any card, scrapbooking page, 3D project or packaging   project that fits the challenge.
  • Use every element in the recipe, but the possibilities within those parameters are endless.
  • Please include the challenge graphic and link back to the   challenge in your blog post. Turn off word verification so we   can send you lots of feedback. Make sure you link the post not the whole blog to the Linky. Use AYSI#222 when uploading to a public gallery.
  • If you’re unsure about ‘the rules’, check the details under the Challenge Guidelines tab.

You are invited to the Inlinkz link party!

Winners for Challenge #221 - Preferences

It was so much fun finding out what your favourite card to send was in our Fill In the Blank Challenge, Preferences! Of course, there was much variety, but two favourites seem to emerge from the unofficial poll: birthday cards and encouragement cards, with birthday cards being the hands down winner! But then we had to choose winners from among the throng of gorgeous cards all of you submitted! No easy task! But here they are:

Our Top Pick is: Karen Brown

Karen's whimsical birthday card would be a delight for anyone to receive. The Design Team particularly liked her colouring job and the layout, especially the way the little monkey's tail winds around the end of the sentiment! The texture in the background is the perfect subtle finish for this birthday masterpiece for a child!

Our Featured Artist is: Shirley Gentry

The beautiful flowers coloured and cut from the Flowering Foils DSP, created a beautiful focal point for  Shirley's card. The skill she used in colouring the images and in fussy cutting them is amazing, but she upped her game by adding gorgeous texture in the background and on the flap of her envelope, rhinestones and a bright, bold sentiment tag! Lovely job, Shirley!

Congratulations to our winners and thanks to everyone who played along! Come and check out our new Recipe Challenge tomorrow morning on our blog! Our winners can pick up their badges on this page and display them with pride on their blogs or sites.

Challenge #221 - Preferences

As a card maker, you create many different kinds of cards, and, presumably, you send them as well. We all have our favourite kind to make, but what is your favourite kind of card to send? Just fill in the blank and then make a project based on that idea. Let us know in your post how you filled in the blank! And see how many others feel the same way you do! Thanks to our design team member, Joanne James for this great idea!

What are the preferences of our Design Team??

Amy Jasper
Amy's favourite kind of card to send is a "just because" card!

Heather loves to send birthday cards to her grandkids.

Jan loves sending butterfly and birthday cards!

Jane's favourites are birthday cards!

Joanne James
Joanne loves to send those birthday cards plus!

LeAnne Pugliese
LeAnne says her favourite cards to send are Christmas cards!

  • Create any card, scrapbooking page, 3D project or packaging   project that fits the challenge.
  • Fill in the blanks with the words that are right for you and then create your project with those words in mind. Tell us, in your blog or on your site, what words you used.
  • Please include the challenge graphic and link back to the   challenge in your blog post. Turn off word verification so we   can send you lots of feedback. Make sure you link the post not the whole blog to the Linky. Use #AYSI221 when uploading to a public gallery.
  • If you’re unsure about ‘the rules’, check the details under the Challenge Guidelines tab.

Winners for Challenge #220

We didn't have a lot of entries for our last challenge, Fragile Flames, but things got a little hot in the DT room as we tried to pick winners! We liked them all, and really had a hard time deciding! Those colours made for some beautiful designs! We finally came to a consensus, though and here they are:

Our Top Pick is: dj

How about an undersea design without a drop of blue!? dj managed that feat and made it look fantastic. She has a great layout and used a neat technique with silver embossed vellum, sponged with colour on the reverse side! A totally different take on the Challenge colours, but very creative and clean and simple to boot!

Our Featured Artist is: Gayle Chrvala

Gayle's vibrant design caught out eyes immediately. She did a fabulous job of colour matching and her focal point flower looks as though it was made of flames! The beautiful blending she did for the flower was echoed in the background as well, and that black on red sentiment label really caps off an amazing project!

Congratulations to our winners and thanks to everyone who played along! Come and check out our new Fill In the Blank Challenge tomorrow morning on our blog! Our winners can pick up their badges on this page and display them with pride on their blogs or sites.
