Challenge #237 - On the Bias

Well, a good old-fashioned sketch challenge might be just what the doctor ordered for everyone and yours truly, Heather, has come up with a different slant on a common theme - the split background! How will you handle the challenge of the angled split? Will you use a 3D divider like a ribbon or will you cut your background paper in half diagonally or do you have a completely different idea. Where does your bias lie?

Feel free to rotate or flip the sketch, just keep the integrity of it, so we can recognize it.

Here are some guidelines for the challenge:

  • Feel free to flip or rotate the sketch and to substitute one   shape for another but we must still be able to see the sketch   in your finished submission.
  • Please include the challenge graphic and link back to the   challenge in your blog post. Turn off word verification so we   can send you lots of feedback. Make sure you link the post not the whole blog to the Linky. Use #AYSI237 when uploading to a public gallery.

Winners for Challenge #236 - Brisk Butterflies

Only a few of you were up for a speed challenge last time, or the thought of brisk butterflies was too much of an oxymoron to work with! But we salute those of you who picked up the gauntlet and ran with it...er, fluttered fleetly! Here are our winners:

Our Top Pick is: Gayle Chrvala 7m5s

Gayle has used some really stunning background paper to create a beautifully clean seven minute card! We loved the confetti circle die that lets that gorgeous paper show through and we also loved that the butterfly is stamped on the same paper before cutting it out. The lovely expanse of white gives the clean, crisp look!

Our Featured Artist is: Heather Heroldt 9m15s

It's all rainbows and butterflies for Heather's creation! The Design Team loved her choice of paper and the way the butterflies echoed the colours on the DSP! And when she threw in the decorated envelope in under 10 minutes, well, our collective mind was blown! Awesome job, Heather!

And we think you may want to check out the following Honorable Mention on her site:

Congratulations to our winners and thanks to everyone who played along! Come and check out our new Sketch Challenge tomorrow morning on our blog! Our winners can pick up their badges on this page and display them with pride on their blogs or sites.

Challenge #236 - Brisk Butterflies

While butterflies can leisurely flit from flower to flower in search of nectar, we don't want you to flit leisurely at all for this challenge! This is a SPEED STAMPING challenge! You need to complete your project in UNDER 10 MINUTES! You need to be a BRISK butterfly!

Our Design Team member, Joanne, chose a really good theme for speed stamping! I'm sure we all have butterfly stamps and/or butterfly and floral designer paper, and it won't be too hard to come up with something pretty in a short time frame!

When we do a speed challenge we are not expecting a detailed masterpiece from you. We want you to have fun and see what you can create in under 10 minutes! You can design it in your head or sketch it out first. You can gather all your supplies ahead of time. But once you start the cutting/stamping/die cutting/embossing /etc. process, you must start the timer!

You have 10 minutes!
Let us know, with your entry, how long it took you to complete your card or project! The key is to KISS!! Keep It Simple, Stamper!

Did this speed challenge give the Design Team butterflies? Let's see:

Winners for Challenge #235 - Sew Good

Well, Challenge #235 is all sewn up now! Thanks to everyone for adding their stitches to the quilt, so to speak! We got some absolutely beautiful projects in our gallery. Doesn't stitching make for the most satisfying addition to a panel or label? Choosing winners was a daunting task, but you always make it tough! Here they are:

We have two top picks this week:

Our first Top Pick is: Eunice S.

Eunice has created some stunning tags for her entry in the challenge, and you really need to expand the image to appreciate all the special details here. The stitching can be seen in the snow, almost like glistening in the moon light. Her paper choices, sentiments and the use of the smooch paint to the deer, and antlers and trees, all add up to make tags almost too beautiful to put on a gift!

Our second Top Pick is: Jen Mitchell

Jen has done what she does so well with CAS cards! This one features a beautiful little tangled wildflower garden, where she made use of silhouette stamps in a different way by using a variety of colours, creating depth with colour intensities! She used stitching in all the panels and matched it up on the sides for a seamless look! Very effective!

Our Featured Artist is: Tenia Nelson

Tenia has let her stitching frame her beautiful watercolour portrayal of roses! For full impact, click on the image to see it enlarged. The design team loved the contrast between the free-flowing pastel watercolouring and the free-form stitching with the bold graphic black and white sentiment! And, just in case those stitches don't hold, we have a couple staples in the mix, as well! Tenia's designs always deliver an element of design surprise!

And we think you may want to check out the following Honorable Mentions on their site:
