Challenge #273 - They Call It The Blues

I look at the banner for today's challenge with that amazing photo of the geode in shades of blue and I have an old Elton John song running through my head, "I Guess That's Why They Call It the Blues!" It's a monochromatic type of colour challenge this time around and it's in shades of blue - beautiful ones! I hope our team member LeAnne wasn't in a blue mood when she came up with this challenge, but it's really going to result in some gorgeous projects!

Each time we have a colour challenge, the Featured Artist will have a chance to become a Guest Designer for our next Recipe Challenge 4 weeks from now. So enter with that in mind! We're so excited to work with you for a challenge!!

Remember, if you don't have the Stampin' Up! colours, use the colours you have that are the closest. Your project should use all these colours only and 1 neutral. (Neutrals include black, white, vanilla or Crumb Cake.)

Here are some guidelines for the challenge:

  • Create any card, scrapbooking page, 3D project or packaging project that fits the challenge.
  • Stampin' Up! colours are used for reference but any matching colours are welcome. You can use black/neutral for outlines and sentiments but don’t use any other colours. Make sure you use all the colours in the challenge banner. Neutrals include black, white, vanilla, Crumb Cake.
  • Please include the challenge graphic and link back to the challenge in your blog post. Turn off word verification so we can send you lots of feedback. Make sure you link the post not the whole blog to the Linky. Use #AYSI273 when uploading to a public gallery.
  • If you’re unsure about ‘the rules’, check the details under the Challenge Guidelines tab.
  • You can combine our challenge with up to 3 other compatible challenges.*
  • We do reserve the right to delete, or not consider, entries that do not comply with these guidelines.*
*Just a note: These last two guidelines have been stated all along under the Challenge Guidelines tab on our site, but with the number of entries that have been exceeding the number of challenges entered guideline lately, we thought it would be a good idea to bring it to your attention. Why do we have this guideline? The spirit of our challenges is that we want them to inspire you rather than just be one of a list of challenges that just happens to fit a card that you've already created.

Winners for Challenge #272 - Horizontal Array

Our sketch challenges aim to give you a framework to enhance your creativity! This last challenge was different but was versatile enough to be either a fancy background or the main event! We loved what you did with it! You're all so creative! You've earned your stripes!

Without further ado, I want to introduce you to our winners! Here they are:

Our Top Pick is: Karen Ksenzahovic

karen ksenzahovic

Karen captured the zing of spring with her colourful patterned paper cut into strips to meet the sketch's requirements and the bright die cut sentiment. But the beautifully muted background keeps everything grounded and allows the bright colours to pop! Karen used this sketch to the best advantage with her choices of colours and papers!

Our Featured Artist is: Amy Koenders

Amy also let beautiful patterned paper speak volumes with her design! The contrast and beauty of her two choices was so well thought out that it created an elegant, peaceful motif. The workmanship was evident with each strip of DSP die cut with stitched dies and arranged perfectly. Her lovely sentiment was displayed  with coordinating colours and stamping. The ribbon tops it all off! Congratulations, Amy, on being our Featured Artist this week!

Challenge #272 - Horizontal Array

It's a sketch challenge this week and I love it! Design Team member Jane came up with a brilliant sketch that let's you go in any number of directions (well, figuratively! In reality it's just horizontal!), but gets you thinking for sure! Will you keep the horizontal elements equal or will you vary their thicknesses? Will you be traditional or get creative with the sketch? There are so many things you can do with this array! Let your imagination loose!

Feel free to rotate or flip the sketch, just keep the integrity of it, so we can recognize it.

What themes did the Design Team use with the sketch? Check out their arrays:

Here are some guidelines for the challenge:

  • Feel free to flip or rotate the sketch and to substitute one shape for another but we must still be able to see the sketch in your finished submission.
  • Please include the challenge graphic and link back to the challenge in your blog post. Turn off word verification so we can send you lots of feedback. Make sure you link the post not the whole blog to the Linky. Use #AYSI272 when uploading to a public gallery.

Winners for Challenge #271 - Flash Dry

Speed stamping challenges are fun! They really are! I wouldn't lie to you! Getting your adrenaline pumping is exhilarating! Getting back to basics but still making a beautiful card is a good skill to have! Planning out your design ahead of time is a different way of creating and trying something different is good for our development as artists, isn't it? Just reading the blogs of our few entries this week will convince you that a good, albeit hair-raising time was had by all! Thanks to the few who gave it a go!

Now on to our winners for this challenge! Because we had only a few entries, we will not be awarding Honorable Mentions this time.

Our first Top Pick is: Deborah Wheeler

deborah wheeler

The wonderful way that Deborah matched her colourful patterned paper with the inspirational sentiment makes this card stand out and you wouldn't believe that it was completed in just over 8 minuntes! The Design Team just loved the colourfulness of her project and the great way it illustrated the "Staying Dry" theme, because to stay dry you don't come outside until the rainbow appears, right?

Our Featured Artist is: Jolanda Johnstone

jolanda johnstone

Jolanda's beautiful card is a testament to the way that detailed pre-planning and use of a stamp-positioning tool can aid your success in a speed stamping challenge! Would you believe it if I told you that her card was finished in 8 minutes and 54 seconds? If you want to learn how to do a speed challenge then read Jolanda's blog entry. It should be the textbook on the subject! And look at the beautiful colours she has used with her umbrella filled with flowers! Congratulations, Jolanda!

Congratulations to our winners and thanks to everyone who played along! Come back and join us tomorrow morning for our next challenge, a sketch challenge. Our winners today can pick up their badges on this page and display them with pride on their blogs or sites.
