Challenge #220 - Fragile Flames

This week we have another colour challenge, from the creative mind of Design Team member, LeAnne! These colours are so warm and blend so well together, with the exception of the white, that I immediately thought of flames, but in our Challenge banner, the white plays such a big role that it makes the other colours look quite delicate, so I've called our challenge this week Fragile Flames. I wonder what you'll make of that? (Remember you can use the colours you have that most closely match the ones we've given you here on the banner. Don't count yourself out because you don't have the exact ones!)

How did the Design Team use this fiery palette this week:

Here are some guidelines for the challenge:

  • Create any card, scrapbooking page, 3D project or packaging   project that fits the challenge.
  • Stampin' Up! colours are used for reference but any matching colours are welcome. You can use black/neutral for outlines and sentiments but don’t use any other colours.
  • Please include the challenge graphic and link back to the   challenge in your blog post. Turn off word verification so we   can send you lots of feedback. Make sure you link the post not the whole blog to the Linky. Use #AYSI220 when uploading to a public gallery.
  • If you’re unsure about ‘the rules’, check the details under the Challenge Guidelines tab.

Winners for Challenge #219

Our heads were buzzing with excitement over your responses to our Sketch Challenge, Hive, over the last two weeks! We loved what you did with it and the creative license you took with it! Some of you took Hive quite literally and used a bee theme, while some of you alluded to bees, and the rest of you let the pollen fly and scatter in the wind and used the shapes to create something awesomely different! There was a lot of humming amongst the workers in the hive as we deliberated on our winners! In the end, we chose two Top Picks this time, as well as a Featured Artist, and here they are:

Our first Top Pick is: Mary Deatherage

Mary's card has fantastically rich tropical layering! The Design Team just loved the texture and all the extra touches, including the burlap ribbon, the Coastal Weave texture on the envelope flap and the Terracotta Tile touch to the lettering on the inside! And how about that bow? It made us want to go somewhere warm for a while!

Our second Top Pick is: dj

The vintage vibe in dj's card really struck a chord with the Design Team. That scripted pear stamp is made for this sketch and the paper she 'paired' it with is perfect.(#sorrynotsorry) And let's talk about the texture in the ribbons and that corduroy button! Awesome job!

Our Featured Artist is: Shawna

Shawna's artistic Prisma work on the black background caught the eye of the Design Team as well as all the Southwest Design Elements she included. If you read her blog, you will see all the little details she included in her colouring of the image, including white shading, dark shadows for a 3D effect and some distressing. All of it contributes to create a winning project! Beautiful work, Shawna!

Congratulations to our winners and thanks to everyone who played along! Come and check out our new Colour Challenge tomorrow morning on our blog! Our winners can pick up their badges on this page and display them with pride on their blogs or sites.

Challenge #219 - Hive!

Happy Valentine's Day and time for another Sketch Challenge here at As You See It Challenges! The main shape in this sketch just looks like a bee hive, hence the title of our challenge, but don't let that restrict you to exactly that shape! Take artistic license, PLEASE! And the same with the star! Did you know that the bee hives that were made in that shape were woven baskets called skeps? And that the people who wove them were called skeppers? (Just a shout out to raise awareness for the endangered bee, without which life on our planet would cease to exist!)

Feel free to rotate or flip the sketch, just keep the integrity of it, so we can recognize it. Aye, aye, skepper!

What keeps the Design Team buzzing these days?

Here are some guidelines for the challenge:

  • Create any card, scrapbooking page, 3D project or packaging   project that fits the challenge.
  • Feel free to flip or rotate the sketch and to substitute one   shape for another but we must still be able to see the sketch   in your finished submission.
  • Please include the challenge graphic and link back to the   challenge in your blog post. Turn off word verification so we   can send you lots of feedback. Make sure you link the post not the whole blog to the Linky. Use #AYSI219 when uploading to a public gallery.
  • If you’re unsure about ‘the rules’, check the details under the Challenge Guidelines tab.

Winners for Challenge #218

Whew! There was so much adrenaline pumping through the internet over the last 12 days and all of it was leading to the As You See It Speed Stamping Challenge #218! Good for you, all of you who took up the gauntlet we threw down, to build a card in under 10 minutes, all in shades of brown. We had some incredible entries! It's so hard to pick winners, but somebody's got to do it, so we did.

Our Top Pick is: Gayle Chrvala

Gayle used some pretty awesome masking, sponging and stamping techniques for a speed stamping card. The stamps she chose are perfect for the mask she used and look how beautiful that bow is for an eight minute card! While no one wants to have to receive sympathy cards, this one is going to be a real blessing to whoever receives it! Beautiful work, Gayle!

Our first Featured Artist is: Heather Heroldt

Heather was brave enough to attempt collage stamping for her speed stamping entry and it turned out beautifully. She even went as far as to push the envelope by die cutting and stacking her "Amour" sentiment. You should read her description - it's the definition of adrenaline rush! The design team loved the variety of stamps in her collage, including the Eiffel Tower, which she stamped perfectly straight! And the lovely repeated script background! A great card design, even under regular circumstances! Kudos to you, Heather!

Congratulations to our winners and thanks to everyone who played along! Come and check out our new Sketch Challenge tomorrow morning on our blog! Our winners can pick up their badges on this page and display them with pride on their blogs or sites.
