Challenge #331 - Fast Fruit

Welcome to our next As You See It Speed Challenge! Wait! What?? Did I hear a cheer, or was that a big, fat raspberry! If that was a cheer then hooray, you've learned to love Speed Challenges!

And if that was a raspberry, well, you might be interested to know you're right on track for the theme of our speed challenge this week, thanks to team member Jane! Check out the Challenge Banner:

challenge #331
Now those of you who are familiar with our Speed Challenges know that basically you have to create a card to fit the theme in under 10 minutes. But you can plan your card first and get out all your materials first. However, the moment you cut paper, or add ink to a stamp, or begin to use a tool, you must start the timer!

In your post, make sure you tell us how long it took you to create your card.

Let's see how long it took the Design Team to make their cards:

9 minutes 52 seconds

Heather Cooper

7 minutes 21 seconds

Heather Heroldt

7 minutes

Jan Clothier

9 minutes 58 seconds - 2 seconds to spare!

Jane Knudsen

5 minutes 32 seconds

Joanne James

9 minutes 47 seconds

Here are some guidelines for the challenge:

  • Create any card, scrapbooking page, 3D project or packaging project that fits the challenge.
  • Use every element in the recipe, but the possibilities within those parameters are endless.
  • Please include the challenge graphic and link back to the challenge in your blog post. Turn off word verification so we can send you lots of feedback. Make sure you link the post not the whole blog to the Linky. Use AYSI#329 when uploading to a public gallery.
  • If you’re unsure about ‘the rules’, check the details under the Challenge Guidelines tab.
  • You can combine our challenge with up to 3 other compatible challenges.
  • We do reserve the right to delete, or not consider, entries that do not comply with these guidelines.
You can play along with us until Wednesday September 11, 11.59pm Pacific Time.

Winners for Challenge #330 - Antique Beauty

For some of us, creating layers and layers, adding lots of embellishments, distressing and sponging edges, adding ribbon, ink splatters and stamped script is food for the soul. For those who love a clean and simple look, it seems like total overkill! But to each their own and it's nice to provide opportunities for the shabby chic lovers to sponge to their hearts content once in awhile! Thanks to all who entered, whatever style you may prefer!

Here are the winners of Challenge #330:

Our Top Pick is: Sandra Strobel

This vintage style  card is an absolute delight! The rich reds and browns served to highlight the wonderful softly sponged fern and those good-enough-to-eat mushroons.  The dark sponging at the edges turned it into a perfect nature vignette. Whoever is lucky enough to receive this couldn't help but be delighted. Congratulations, Sandra, on being our Top Pick this week.

Our Featured Artist is:  Sandra Strobel

This card was an absolute masterclass in vintage/shabby chic style! The warm tones of brown and gold worked well with the richness of the blues. The softly distressed sheet music provided a charming base for the luscious layers of blue and gold foliage. The wash of blue was a restful spot to highlight the glorious pumpkins. All in all, a vintage delight. I don't know if it's happened before but huge congratulations on being both our Top Pick AND Featured Artist this week!

Challenge #330 - Antique Beauty

Thanks to our creative team member, Jan, we all have an opportunity to indulge our Victorian character with this challenge. Yes, it's a theme challenge and the theme is Vintage or Shabby Chic! Get out those sponges, those ribbons, those distressing tools, and go to town! I'm saying this gleefully, cause that's my jam, from way back when I started stamping! Just have some fun going a bit overboard. Here's the challenge banner:

Winners for Challenge #329 - Forest Bathing

Thanks to all the guest "chefs" who tried out our Recipe Challenge last week! The beautiful greens in your projects were almost as soothing as Forest Bathing! It's amazing how 5 different ingredients can be combined in so many different ways. Your cards gave us some beautiful designs! Here are the winners:

aysi top pick badge

Our Top Pick is: Jolanda Johnstone

top pick

Jolanda used some beautiful patterned paper in shades of green to satisfy that ingredient in our recipe, then stepped it up by embossing that paper with leaves. She added a vertical column and used a different embossing folder for that. The focal point is a medallion of white with lovely tree shapes stamped on in different shades of green and a birthday sentiment, satisfying each element of the recipe when you include the baker's twine around the vertical layer. With the contrast between the green rays and the white medallion, Jolanda has given us a striking composition worthy of Top Pick!

And our Featured Artist this week:

Our Featured Artist is: Teresa S.

Teresa, our Featured Artist this week and winner, used the elements of the recipe in very creative ways! The Design Team loved her sparkly green palm trees and the embossing she used on the trunks! The many and varied places the shades of green showed up, including the palm fronds and the hammock, as well as the background paper, were interesting and eye-catching.  And look at the clever way Teresa incorporated the twine in her project, as the ties for her green hammock! Wow! Well earned Featured Artist award!  Congratulations, Teresa!

Challenge #329 - Forest Bathing

Our Design Team member, Heather H., cooked up this recipe challenge and it is full of natural elements! Have you heard of Forest Bathing? This challenge reminds me of that!  Have fun with this recipe, and we can't wait to see how you use all 5 of these elements!

You have to include all the elements in the recipe on your creation, but how you do that is up to you! Have fun and start your ovens, er...stamp sets!

challenge #329

We are so pleased to welcome our fourteenth guest designer, Carol McFarland, (who was our Featured Artist on Challenge #327 a couple of weeks back) for this challenge

Winners for Challenge #328 - Fill in the Blank at the Beach

What beautiful beachy scenes we saw this week. There's something about the shore that makes for great crafting! Shells, coral, seaweed, sand dollars - it's all so picturesque!  Then the Design Team had the task of choosing winners! You didn't make it easy for us.
aysi top pick badge

Our Top Pick is: Suzy Hinton

top pick

When Suzy filled in the blank, mentioning that snorkeling was her favourite beach activity, the Design Team wasn't expecting this adorable collection of snorkeling sea creatures adorning her well-designed card! We loved that each character had it's own bubble on a swirly textured background of white! With a perfect sentiment and great colour palette, this card is a real Top Pick!! Congratulations, Suzy!

Our Featured Artist is: LeAnne Pugliese

featured artist

LeAnne, our Featured Artist's winning entry, is a tutorial in composition! The Design Team loved the way she combined several sets to create this beautiful sea theme. We also loved the textured stamping and sponging she did on each object before adding it. And the Sea Turtle set created an amazing background without taking away from the CAS look of the design. Congratulations, LeAnne!
