Challenge #373 - Full Tilt Tulips

And away we go with another round of a speed challenge, and this time, we're doing flowers that come from spring bulbs like tulips, daffodils, crocuses, etc. It should be easy to do in a short time frame: You have 10 minutes or less! Check out the Challenge Banner:

challenge #373

This challenge was the creation of our Team member, Heather H., and what a great idea for a speed challenge, because bulb flowers, particularly tulips and crocuses, are particularly easy to make, either stamping, punching or die cutting, which means they should go quickly! What was your experience?

You may plan your project ahead of time, gather your equipment, mount your stamps, etc., but the moment you ink up a stamp, or cut a piece of paper or cardstock, you must start the timer!  Good luck and have fun!d

Let's see how our Design Team managed this challenge:

Nancy's creation is a feast for the eyes, with such great use of vellum and texture! She uses it for the waves, dry embossed into the sand, heat embossed on the shells and smooshed onto the background water! The sea-glass embellishments finish it off in the perfect manner! What a great classic for Top Pick this week!

Challenge #372 - Beach Combing

One of my favourite activities is to go for a walk on a beach by the ocean and look for treasures. Where I live, in British Columbia, Canada, it's not that far to get to the Pacific Ocean and there are some spectacular beaches to walk along. Besides the expected sea shells and seaweed, you can find unusual things like driftwood, buoys, sea glass, and even the odd jellyfish (don't pick that up!)

Years ago, there was a television program called the Beachcombers that highlighted folks that lived on the coast of BC. Molly had a cafe called Molly's Reach; Nick had a boat called the Persephone, that he used to do some heavy duty beachcombing with; Relic was his sometimes sidekick, sometimes nemesis! It was quirky, as only Canadian broadcasting can be, but it ended up being syndicated and broadcast around the world. Let me know if you've ever seen it!  Meanwhile, have fun with my Beachcombing theme!

Winners for Challenge #371 - Recipe for Framed Floral Success

The Design Team were overcome with the beauty of the designs of the entries in our Recipe for Framed Floral Success Challenge! It always amazes me how the same 5 elements can result in such a variety of entries, all of them uniquely beautiful. And that makes being the ones who have to pick the winners a very tough job! Nonetheless...

Here are the winners of Challenge #371!

Our Top Pick is: Loopyloo

top pick

What an elegant design we were treated to with the card Loopyloo entered in this recipe challenge! To start with, just look at the frame! It looks like something from Top Edwardian Designed Frames! The die cut florals are beautiful shades of pink with some foliage for contrast and the layers create incredible depth! Finally, that lovely understated sentiment banner adds the one word finish! Top Pick material! Congratulations, Loopyloo!!

Our Featured Artist is: Vicki Burdick

Vicki has made a card that also uses techniques to create a lot of depth in her design. She has the tulips growing up and out of the frame, which is a great way of indicating height, as well as being able to spot the background papers through the foreground! The Design Team loved the choice of striped DSP in pastels and the skillful colouring of the tulips. Congratulations, Vicki, on being this week's Featured Artist!
