Challenge #291 - Paint Pour

January and February can be so blah in the Northern Hemisphere and really need an infusion of colour to add some life into the grey world. This colour challenge is a little pick-me-up designed to do just that! Imagine a paint pour featuring these colours, dark colours opening up to light, blues and pinks contrasting! Let's see how that stokes your imagination! (Note: You don't have to create a paint pour for this challenge!)

Each time we have a colour challenge, the Featured Artist will have a chance to become a Guest Designer for our next Recipe Challenge 4 weeks from now. So enter with that in mind! We're so excited to work with you for a challenge!!

Remember, if you don't have the Stampin' Up! colours, use the colours you have that are the closest. Your project should use all these colours only and 1 neutral. (Neutrals include black, white, vanilla or Crumb Cake.)

Our first Top Pick is: Yvon from Blue Heart Stamping

top pick 1

Yvon created a beautiful collage design with gobs of texture and metallic accents! The Design Team loved her choice of paper for the borders and her composition within the sketch guidelines. This is a great example of creativity while maintaining the integrity of a sketch. Lovely, Yvon!

Our second Top Pick isStef Perry

top pick 2

Stef created an elegant card by flipping the sketch on its side. She took the embossed cardstock in the background and added some white ink to highlight the raised areas which really enhanced the technique! Her butterfly and sentiment really steal the show with the silver die cuts on the white matte. We loved her treatment of the borders as well.

Our Featured Artist is: Tenia Nelson

featured artist

Tenia's whimsical design used a torn paper reveal for the border treatment and special details with sequins and staples to highlight it. Her hand painted cupcake definitely looks good enough to eat and she created a lot of vertical variety with her layers! What a great representation of the sketch! Congratulations, Tenia.

Challenge #290 - Border Beauty

Happy New Year, everyone, and welcome back to our regular rotation of challenges for 2023! We are really excited about the ideas we have for you this year, and we can hardly wait to see what you will do with them.

The lovely Jane gave us a sketch challenge this week with lots of white space in it so we can fill it (or not) with our creative notions!

Feel free to rotate or flip the sketch, just keep the integrity of it, so we can recognize it.

Thanks to the keeners who came out to play our Bonus Holiday Challenge #289b. You created some lovely cards for this project. Here are the winners

Our Top Pick is: Fiona Whitehead

top pick

Fiona's card definitely has a medieval vibe going here with her neutral tones and the antiquing that she has done. The music background picks up on the music theme from our inspiration photo and manages to look like a medieval music score as well. The main image of the vase with the flowers and the bird also picks up on a theme from the photo as well as colours in the photo, but keeping the colours muted adds to the overall antique look of the whole card. Just lovely!

Our Featured Artist is: Yvon from Blue Heart Stamping

featured artist

There are so many amazing details in Yvon's card that make up a beautiful project worthy of Featured Artist. First, the strip of music score on the right to pick up on the music theme in the Inspiration Photo. Then the lovely stenciled and splattered polka-dotted background that makes the perfect background for the masterfully coloured roses and foliage, which boasts the colours of the photo. The design team also loved the gold twine arranged so that it curls just right through the images and exits with a flourish! Well done!
