We just loved all the entries that came with the Picnic Theme! They were all amazing! It was SOO hard to choose winners!  The picnic food looked delicious, especially those pies! Couldn't you almost smell them? However you slice it though, they were all beautiful!

The Design Team loved the pie cards this week, and no wonder! The pies were so realistic looking. Kelly's cherry pie not only looked delicious, but she put it in a picnic context by adding all sorts of gingham and cherry red and white details. Check out the fringed blanket and the scalloped cloth! So effective! Congratulations on being awarded Top pick this week Kelly!

Our Featured Artist is: Jaydee

Jaydee's apple pie took the cake in our opinion! We could almost taste that flaky crust and those tart apples. Then the apple die cuts, the colours, the pink gingham and the apple tree in the background just added to that Dining Al Fresco motif! Pie and picnics are the best! And the subtlety of Jaydee's shading added to the reality of the look! Congratulations, Jaydee, on being this week's Featured Artist!

It's definitely picnic season in the Northern Hemisphere and dreaming of picnic season in the Southern Hemisphere, so what does a picnic look like to you? Do you have a dedicated picnic basket complete with gingham tablecloth, or blanket, thermos, cutlery, plates and food containers, or do you pack a Tupperware container with food and eat with paper plates, or pull things out of a backpack?That's our Theme Challenge this week, thanks to our creative team mate, Heather H.

Winners for Challenge #348 - Spots or Stripes

We just loved all the entries that came with the Spots or Stripes Theme Challenge! They were all amazing! It was SOO hard to choose winners! To generalize, the spotty ones seemed to be playful and whimsical, while the striped ones tended to be more stately and sophisticated, but there were a few designs that blew that theory completely out of the water! However you slice it though, they were all beautiful!

Here are the winners of Challenge #336! We have two Top Picks:

Our first Top Pick is: Johanna from LHC

The Design Team loved the variety of stripes used on this lovely design of Johanna's this week. There were horizontal, vertical, diagonal, shiny, glittery and solid; this arrangement of stripes created a very sophisticated pattern for a masculine card or any card for that matter! The darker tones used just accentuated the designs. Congratulations,Johanna, on being one of our Top Picks this week. 

Our second Top Pick is: Erin T.

What's interesting about Erin's design is that even though dots usually give off a playful or whimsical vibe, Erin has managed to use them in a way that is decidedly sophisticated. With the black background and yellow dots, that background makes the focal point more on the formal side. We loved that Erin used a vellum circle to create that focal point as well, and along with her colour choices, everything worked together to make a very lovely Top Pick! Congratulations, Erin!

Our Featured Artist is: Milla

Milla didn't just use stripes in her creation today, she made the stripes work to enhance her whole design! The clean, straight lines of the stripes emphasized the clean lines of her florals and the preciseness of her copic colouring skills! The colour matching with the foliage and the stripes enhances the design as well! The stripes are perfectly juxtaposed with the arch of the main panel. Congratulations, Milla, on being Featured Artist  and winner this week!

What are the birds doing in your part of the world? Whether they are just appearing or leaving on their migrations, they are often the early sign of a new season! And the sign of a good theme challenge is lots of entries. We did have a good number of them, and some more new players, so welcome to you all. The Design Team loved the regal swan die cut and the stenciled floral design Nance included on the card front! The colours she used were so vibrant and appealing, and there were so many small details, either die cut or stenciled, that brought the scene to life! Our Featured Artist is: Michele Ferguson

 

Michele's stenciled flower image was already beautiful, but she took it up a notch by using coloured pencils to hand draw some extra shading lines and, suddenly, the image was perfect! In addition, that bird image is so realistic looking, it could fly off the page, and when it is all added to a background of faded script....voila! Chef's kiss!  I recently watched a documentary saying that birds are definitely evolved from dinosaurs! They made a convincing case! Whether or not you believe that, birds are certainly a dominant species on Planet Earth! And the varieties are so different from each other in colour and form.
