Challenge #376 - Embossed

How much fun are our Fill in the Blank Challenges? I mean, we give you some mild guidelines, but you get to write in your own parameters! This time, thanks to our team mate, LeAnne, we're writing about Embossing Folders, those little plastic enclosures of magic! Do you remember the first time you used one and the world of crafting effects they opened up to you? Now we're asking you to choose your current favourite one, or your all time favourite, if you still have it! Let us know the name of it by filling in the blank with it, and then make a card with it and post it in our gallery! Have fun with it, and You're Welcome!

Our Top Pick is: Amanda Mertz

Amanda has used the challenge colours with such a pleasing affect. The background paper, though bright, still remains in the background through the use of that large white, lacy-edged circle, which gives great separation for the flowers. The flowers are white as well, but use the challenge colours as centers and leaves, small but bright pops of colour. And that lacy-looking strip of Coastal Cabana is brilliant giving the whole layout balance and texture. Congrats on winning Top Pick, Amanda!

Our Featured Artist is: Jaydee

As Featured Artist this week, Jaydee will also be invited to be our next Guest Designer! Jaydee's beautifully designed whimsical holiday scene using the challenge colours features great variety and dimension. Our winning entry, Amy, the Featured Artist, has created a gorgeous tropical eye feast in pastels The Design Team loved the rainbow ink blending on the background as well as the way Amy emphasized each pastel with more solid highlights. Challenge #374 - Sphere of Influence

It's sketch time, and this week's sketch, by teammate Jan, is magical! Spheres do seem to have special qualities: the moon, the sun, unity, containment, infinity & complete symmetry! Winners for Challenge #373 - Full Tilt Tulips

Now, in keeping with my last speed stamping post, I need to explain where the expression "full tilt" comes from! And, believe it or not, it comes from the medieval sport of jousting, also known as tilting. Two knights rode their horses toward one another, each holding a lance aimed at the other, trying to knock the other off his horse. To inflict the maximum damage, they would attempt to ride toward each other at maximum speed ie at full tilt! And now you know!

And you each created your spring bulb cards at full tilt, but you wouldn't know it! They are just lovely! Congratulations to all! Here are your winners:

Our Top Pick is: Loopyloo

Can you believe that this is Loopyloo's Speed Stamping entry?? Look at all those little bitty die cut pieces that had to be put together again with glue to make that beautiful tulip!

Not one's usual choice for a speed stamping challenge! Look at the embossed background! Another step added! And finally - Loopyloo didn't just die cut the sentiment, she also added a shadow for it! What a stunning result! Perfect for Top Pick! Congratulations, Loopyloo!

Our Featured Artist is: Christy Stanford

Christy Stanford, our winner, and Featured Artist, used a tried and true method of speed stamping, DSP! But she used it in such a powerful way that many of the Design Team chose her card as their favourite! Not only did she choose some stunning patterned paper (DSP), she displayed it in an eye-catching way, with well-chosen colours matting the layers of DSP. She made use of dies to create stitching around the edges of the layers and the sentiment tag! Congratulations on earning Featured Artist, Christy!

Challenge #373 - Full Tilt Tulips

And away we go with another round of a speed challenge, and this time, we're doing flowers that come from spring bulbs like tulips, daffodils, crocuses, etc. It should be easy to do in a short time frame: You have 10 minutes or less! Check out the Challenge Banner:

This challenge was the creation of our Team member, Heather H., and what a great idea for a speed challenge, because bulb flowers, particularly tulips and crocuses, are particularly easy to make, either stamping, punching or die cutting, which means they should go quickly! What was your experience?

You may plan your project ahead of time, gather your equipment, mount your stamps, etc., but the moment you ink up a stamp, or cut a piece of paper or cardstock, you must start the timer! Good luck and have fun!d
