It's definitely picnic season in the Northern Hemisphere and dreaming of picnic season in the Southern Hemisphere, so what does a picnic look like to you? Do you have a dedicated picnic basket complete with gingham tablecloth, or blanket, thermos, cutlery, plates and food containers, or do you pack a Tupperware container with food and eat with paper plates, or pull things out of a backpack?That's our Theme Challenge this week, thanks to our creative team mate, Heather H.

Thanks to all the guest "chefs" who tried out our Recipe Challenge last week! The glamour vibes were strong and shiny! It was very hard to pick winners, but that's our job, so we did it and here they are:

Jolanda really got her glam on for this beautiful project. The Design Team loved the amazing glimmer paper floral layer that included die cuts. Then the choice of background paper was so perfect for this black and white and gold elegance. ANd check out the gold embossed sentiment and the coloured rhinestones! Challenge #353 - Recipe for the Gala

What is it about black, white and gold that increases the elegance factor by so much? After all, except for the gold, it is pretty basic! But somehow the contrast elevates the value so much. Today as part of our Recipe Challenge, cooked up by yours truly, we're asking you to include the colours black, white & gold, sequins or rhinestone or both, die cuts, glimmer paper or foil, and heat embossing. I'm expecting some pretty ritzy cards, but who knows what will transpire? I'm always ready to be surprised by "A Recipe for the Gala!"

Our Top Pick is: Deb Horst

Deb's sense  of  humour is shining through here as she has used her favourite circle shape as coffee rings, highlighting a frazzled bird with bad morning vibes. I can just hear the poor thing saying, "Don't talk to me until I've had my first cup of coffee!" The sentiment is hilarious: Caffeinate and hope for the best!  and the coffee beans and coffee splatters add to the stressed atmosphere! Congratulations on Top Pick, Deb!

 

Our Featured Artist is: Birgit

Our Featured Artist, Birgit, has used her favourite shape, the oval to create a beautiful background display for her florals. The variation of colours for the lavender plants, the butterflies flitting around, and the background texture all contribute to a rich and pleasing design. Note how the embossing flattens out for a place to add the sentiment, another great usage of shapes in this layout. Sandra created a beautifully detailed floral card using the challenge colours! The Design Team loved the different values of the challenge hues used on the flowers, while the background has pure white die cuts. The choice of the peach background sheet with the small polka dots, gives a fragile look to the card, reinforced by the twine bow and the clear embellishments. Congratulations on Top Pick, Sandra!

Our Featured Artist is: Jenny Engelke

As Featured Artist this week, Jenny Engelke will also be invited to be our next Guest Designer! Jenny's delicate yet elegant card uses a beautifully stamped and expertly water-coloured floral focal image in foreground.  She enhances that with lots of textures, gold embossing, ink blending and a beautiful gold edged ribbon in a bow!  Congratulations,Jenny, you will be our next Guest Designer for our Recipe Challenge in 2 weeks time. These hot colours and rich green just scream tropical florals and vegetation to me, how about you? I don't use Melon Mambo often, so this gives me a chance to bring it out again, and Garden Green often only sees a lot of action at Christmas, so a new opportunity for it. But some may see something entirely different, so I'm looking forward to seeing what you see in these colours.
