Challenge #356 - Rectangles & Circles

My creativity is at a new low today, hence the brilliant title for this week's sketch challenge! Well, it does the job, doesn't it? Thanks to our former teammate, Jane, we have this interesting sketch combining the two shapes, and it's easier to just show you the challenge banner, isn't it?

challenge #356

As with past sketch challenges, you can flip the sketch on it's side or reverse it, as long as you keep the integrity of the sketch! Feel free to change the shape of the circles as well.

Let's see what the Design Team did with this sketch:

  • Stampin' Up! colours are used for reference but any matching colours are welcome. You can use black/neutral for outlines and sentiments but don’t use any other colours. Make sure you use all the colours in the challenge banner. Neutrals include black, white, vanilla, Crumb Cake.
  • Please include the challenge graphic and link back to the challenge in your blog post. Turn off word verification so we can send you lots of feedback. Make sure you link the post not the whole blog to the Linky. Use AYSI #356 when uploading to a public gallery.
  • You can combine our challenge with up to 3 other compatible challenges.*

Winners for Challenge #350 - Triptych

We loved the variety of thought and design our sketch brought to the entries for our Triptych challenge! It brought about our biweekly Conundrum session: "However are we going to pick winners from all these beauties!" But somehow we managed to swing it once again!

Therefore, let me introduce you to our winners! Here they are:

Our Top Pick is:  Christy Stanford

top pick

Christy's design made good use of the sketch to create a habitat for the little crab. The Design Team loved the bubbles and the colours in the triptych that represented the ocean. The orientation of the sketch was perfect for the crab, and Christy picked the perfect colour for him, echoed by the twine she used.  Great fun sentiment and everything adds up to a worthy Top Pick! Congrats, Christy !

Our Featured Artist is: Julia Sager

Our winning entry, Julia Sager, the Featured Artist, has created a card that flips the sketch on it's side and uses some interesting DSP that reminds me of water colour swatches in summer colours. The yellows, blues and greens looks like they could have been mixes of 3 primary colours in differing amounts. The bee and sun images reinforces the summer theme in such a cute way! Congratulations on being our Featured Artist, Julie!

And we think you may want to check out the following Honorable Mentions on their site:

  5.  Deb Horst

  8.  Jennie Maier

Join us tomorrow for our next challenge, a Colour Challenge with a chance for the winner to be a guest designer for a challenge! Our winners today can pick up their badges on this page and display them with pride on their blogs or sites.

Challenge #350 - Triptych

Are you ready for another sketch challenge? We've got your layout, all you need to do is add paper, colour, stamps and designs! This one is called Triptych because it has 3 panels or cut outs on the top of the card front, like an old art installation in three parts or three panels, often hinged together. This sketch was designed by our clever Team Mate Joanne. You can keep the shapes as is, or change them, but keep the sketch recognizable. You can also change the orientation of the sketch. Let's see what you come up with!

And how did our Design Team use the sketch? Let's check in:

Winners of Challenge #344 - Stacked Shapes

What a lovely group of creations our Stacked Shapes sketch inspired! It was almost impossible to choose winners! But as your Design Team, we are trained to accomplish the impossible!

Therefore, let me introduce you to our winners! Here they are:

aysi top pick badge

Our Top Pick is: Amy Koenders

top pick

Amy used 3 cocktail glasses in watercolour style for the stacked shapes in the sketch, to top effect. The citrus-coloured cocktails with their garnishes create such a cheery note against the tropical-feeling DSP and the embossed sentiment really packs a punch on the darker cardstock.  This whole card feels like a holiday and really adds up to a worthy Top Pick! Congrats, Amy!

Our Featured Artist is: Sandra Strobel

Our winning entry, Sandra Strobel, the Featured Artist, has created a card both serene and elegant! The Design Team loved the neutral colour palette, the embossed lower panel, and the sketch flipped on its side with the 3 shapes turned into peekaboo holes. The scalloped lace and floral die cuts, along with the ornate cross, turn this into a beautiful Easter or sympathy card. Congratulations on being our Featured Artist, Sandra!

Challenge #344 - Stacked Shapes

Our Team Mate, Deborah Wheeler, has come up with a sketch challenge we're going to call Stacked Shapes. Now the shape she chose was a circle, but, according to our rules, you can replace the circle with the shape of your choice, hence the title! Take a look at the sketch in our Challenge Banner:

challenge #344

This is a simple sketch that leaves you all sorts of room for creativity! I can hardly wait to see what you will do with it!

Before I show you what our Design Team has done, we have a sad good-bye to acknowledge. Our long time friend and teammate, Jane Knudsen, has decided she is no longer able to remain on our Design Team, due to a variety of personal factors. We wish her well, and will definitely miss her as a friend and as an amazing contributor to As You See It Challenges!

Amanda created a beautiful spring-like birthday card with our sketch, The Design Team loved the birthday cake focal point and the creative banners that made up the horizontal elements in the sketch!  Along with the lovely wild flowers that embellish the card, the font on the sentiment was just one more element that made this creation one that is fit for Top Pick! Congratulations, Amanda!
