Challenge #351 - Tropical Florals

These hot colours and rich green just scream tropical florals and vegetation to me, how about you? I don't use Melon Mambo often, so this gives me a chance to bring it out again, and Garden Green often only sees a lot of action at Christmas, so a new opportunity for it. But some may see something entirely different, so I'm looking forward to seeing what you see in these colours. And don't forget, by entering, there is a chance you might win the opportunity to be a guest designer for a week with us!

challenge #351

Let's find out what was on the Design Team's minds when they used these colours:

Winners for Challenge #350 - Triptych

We loved the variety of thought and design our sketch brought to the entries for our Triptych challenge! It brought about our biweekly Conundrum session: "However are we going to pick winners from all these beauties!" But somehow we managed to swing it once again!

Therefore, let me introduce you to our winners! Here they are:

aysi top pick badge

Our Top Pick is:  Christy Stanford

top pick

Christy's design made good use of the sketch to create a habitat for the little crab. The Design Team loved the bubbles and the colours in the triptych that represented the ocean. The orientation of the sketch was perfect for the crab, and Christy picked the perfect colour for him, echoed by the twine she used.  Great fun sentiment and everything adds up to a worthy Top Pick! Congrats, Christy !

Our Featured Artist is: Julia Sager

Our winning entry, Julia Sager, the Featured Artist, has created a card that flips the sketch on it's side and uses some interesting DSP that reminds me of water colour swatches in summer colours. The yellows, blues and greens looks like they could have been mixes of 3 primary colours in differing amounts. The bee and sun images reinforces the summer theme in such a cute way! Congratulations on being our Featured Artist, Julie!

And we think you may want to check out the following Honorable Mentions on their site:

  5.  Deb Horst

  8.  Jennie Maier

Join us tomorrow for our next challenge, a Colour Challenge with a chance for the winner to be a guest designer for a challenge! Our winners today can pick up their badges on this page and display them with pride on their blogs or sites.

Challenge #350 - Triptych

Are you ready for another sketch challenge? We've got your layout, all you need to do is add paper, colour, stamps and designs! This one is called Triptych because it has 3 panels or cut outs on the top of the card front, like an old art installation in three parts or three panels, often hinged together. This sketch was designed by our clever Team Mate Joanne. You can keep the shapes as is, or change them, but keep the sketch recognizable. You can also change the orientation of the sketch. Let's see what you come up with!

challenge #350

And how did our Design Team use the sketch? Let's check in:

Winners for Challenge #349 - Rapid Water

Some of you are literally amazing at doing speed challenges! You are learning all the hacks and shortcuts, coming up with designs that make it hard to believe you only took less than 10 minutes to make! And some of you are just experiencing this kind of challenge for the first time, putting your adrenaline on the line! Are we still having fun?

Here are the lovely winners this time, chosen by the Design Team:

aysi top pick badge

Our Top Pick is: Jenny Engelke

top pick

Jenny's unique card, which only took her 9 minutes and 45 seconds, uses a fun fold, no less! A double Z fold! The paper used for the construction of the double z folds is very striking in colour and texture as is the die cut sail boat itself. This was an ambitious and exciting project for a speed challenge!  Congratulation, Jenny, on being our Top Pick this week!

Our Featured Artist is: Johanna from LavenderHouseCreations

featured artist

Johanna, our winner, and Featured Artist, made her comical, whimsical card in 9 min. 57 sec., through no fault of her own. It's the Speed Stamping Principle at work (the Murphy Principle for stampers taking part in a speed stamping challenge. I experience it frequently!) The Design Team just love the yoga-practising frog, (such great stretches and poses) as he bounces from puddle to puddle in the rain! Did you know he was the second prototype? You rock, Johanna, making two of them in the time limit! Congratulations, Johanna, on being our Featured Artist this week!

Challenge #349 - Rapid Water

Time to get out your stopwatch again...it's a Speed Challenge, and this speed challenge has the theme of Water, thanks to former team member, Jane! What kind of water, you ask? Any kind you want! Be creative, but also, be quick! You want to create your card in 10 minutes or less from the time you start cutting or stamping. Feel free to gather all your materials, and plan your project ahead of time, but as soon as you cut or fold a piece of paper, or ink up a stamp, or emboss something you have to start the timer! Then it's full speed ahead!

It is possible to create some amazing projects in under 10 minutes. Just check out our previous Speed Challenges. Read how people managed it. Then give it a try. We think you'll be pleasantly surprised!

Winners for Challenge #348 - Spots or Stripes

We just loved all the entries that came with the Spots or Stripes Theme Challenge! They were all amazing! It was SOO hard to choose winners! To generalize, the spotty ones seemed to be playful and whimsical, while the striped ones tended to be more stately and sophisticated, but there were a few designs that blew that theory completely out of the water! However you slice it though, they were all beautiful!

Here are the winners of Challenge #336! We have two Top Picks:

aysi top pick badge

Our first Top Pick is: Johanna from LHC

top pick

The Design Team loved the variety of stripes used on this lovely design of Johanna's this week. There were horizontal, vertical, diagonal, shiny, glittery and solid; this arrangement of stripes created a very sophisticated pattern for a masculine card or any card for that matter! The darker tones used just accentuated the designs. Congratulations,Johanna, on being one of our Top Picks this week.

aysi top pick badge

Our second Top Pick is: Erin T.

top pick

What's interesting about Erin's design is that even though dots usually give off a playful or whimsical vibe, Erin has managed to use them in a way that is decidedly sophisticated. With the black background and yellow dots, that background makes the focal point more on the formal side. We loved that Erin used a vellum circle to create that focal point as well, and along with her colour choices, everything worked together to make a very lovely Top Pick! Congratulations, Erin!

featured artist

Our Featured Artist is: Milla

featured artist

Milla didn't just use stripes in her creation today, she made the stripes work to enhance her whole design! The clean, straight lines of the stripes emphasized the clean lines of her florals and the preciseness of her copic colouring skills! The colour matching with the foliage and the stripes enhances the design as well! The stripes are perfectly juxtaposed with the arch of the main panel. Congratulations, Milla, on being Featured Artist  and winner this week!
