Challenge #231 - Both Sides of the Story

It's time for another Sketch Challenge here at As You See It and Design Team member Joanne has come up with an interesting sketch that can be interpreted so many different ways! You could tuck a panel between twin slits in the background, you could use a sentiment banner as the dividing arm, you could use a design element of some kind as the divider, you could make a double shaker compartment behind it... There are just so many ways of looking at this! The Design Team can hardly wait to see what you do with it! Remember there are at least two sides to every story, and usually more than that!

Feel free to rotate or flip the sketch, just keep the integrity of it, so we can recognize it.

What side of the story is the Design Team showing us this time?

Taking a break this week, but check out her blog:

Here are some guidelines for the challenge:

  • Create any card, scrapbooking page, 3D project or packaging   project that fits the challenge.
  • Feel free to flip or rotate the sketch and to substitute one   shape for another but we must still be able to see the sketch   in your finished submission.
  • Please include the challenge graphic and link back to the   challenge in your blog post. Turn off word verification so we   can send you lots of feedback. Make sure you link the post not the whole blog to the Linky. Use #AYSI231 when uploading to a public gallery.
  • If you’re unsure about ‘the rules’, check the details under the Challenge Guidelines tab.

Winners for Challenge #230 - Race in Triplicate

Every time we do a Speed Stamping Challenge, we get one or two new entrants intrigued with the concept of raising their own blood pressure and creating angst and drama for themselves by forcing themselves to create a challenge-worthy card in less than 10 minutes! Strange what humans are willing to do to themselves isn't it? However the results are often astonishing and we have had another difficult time choosing winners, but here they are, and well done, everyone! You're all speed champs!

Our Top Pick is:

Laura's beautiful card is full of fall hues, decorative speckling and perfect layering, even her sentiment! The design is so pleasingly balanced, both with positioning and colour that it draws your eye exactly where Laura wants it! Those leave images are stunning in their depth! Laura finished her creation in 9m39s.

Our Featured Artist is: Shawna from TheGrandStampede

This was Shawna's first time doing speed stamping and we think she really aced it! Her card design was simple, as it should be, but it by no means lacked interest! Those three little ladies in kimonos caught everyone's attention right away and they were coloured so well in such a short time! The sentiment was perfect and what a great font! Shawna completed her card in 9 minutes, even with all the copic colouring! Wow! So cute and well-designed!

And we think you may want to check out the following Honorable Mention on their site:

9. Jaydee

Congratulations to our winners and thanks to everyone who played along! Come and check out our new Sketch Challenge tomorrow morning on our blog! Our winners can pick up their badges on this page and display them with pride on their blogs or sites.

Challenge #230 - Race in Triplicate

Remember the 3 legged race from your childhood? You roped your right leg together with your friend's left leg, creating a 3 legged creature with 2 heads and 2 wills that was then expected to run a race against similar creatures down a racecourse and act as one being instead of two! If you both did not create some kind of synergy, total chaos ensued, resulting usually in a fall and defeat!

I suspect Design Team member, LeAnne, was looking to create some kind of synergy as well, when she designed our newest Speed Stamping Challenge #230 with the theme Elements of Three!

When we do a speed challenge we are not expecting a detailed masterpiece from you. We want you to have fun and see what you can create in under 10 minutes! You can design it in your head or sketch it out first. You can gather all your supplies ahead of time. But once you start the cutting/stamping/die cutting/embossing /etc. process, you must start the timer! You have 10 minutes! Let us know, with your entry, how long it took you to complete your card or project! The key is to KISS!! Keep It Simple, Stamper!

What kind of triplicates did the Design Team come up with in under 10 minutes? Let's see:

Amy Jasper 8m23s

Heather Cooper 9m54s

Jan Clothier 9m54s

Joanne James 9m24s

Here are some guidelines for the challenge:

  • Create any card, scrapbooking page, 3D project or packaging   project that fits the challenge.
  • You can come up with your design and gather materials before you start the clock, but once you start work, you have to complete your design in 10 min. State in your blog or description, how long it took you to make it.
  • Use the given theme in your project.
  • Please include the challenge graphic and link back to the   challenge in your blog post. Turn off word verification so we   can send you lots of feedback. Make sure you link the post not the whole blog to the Linky. Use #AYSI230 when uploading to a public gallery.
  • If you’re unsure about ‘the rules’, check the details under the Challenge Guidelines.

Winners for Challenge #229 - Adventure Awaits

It was so much fun to see all your vacation dream plans presented in card form! Thanks so much for tucking us in your suitcases and taking us along for the ride! There were such a variety of ways of showing us where you would go if you could and what you would do! Here are the winners:

We had two people who tied for Top Pick:

Our  first Top Pick is: Eunice Stoneman

The Design Team really loved Eunice's great take on the vacation theme, with a child's view of holidays, from the adorable childlike drawing of the sun and the sentiment to the playful paper designs and finally the universal children's refrain: "Are we there yet?" ten minutes into the journey! It's a great layout, well executed with the panels of paper matted with contrasting black so they pop off the page, and the sun and sentiment forming an eye-catching focal point!

Our second Top Pick is: Karen Finkle

Karen's fancy fold card blew us all away with it's attention to detail and the three dimensional look of it! It's great the way the designer map paper is can be seen through the globe die cut, and echoed on the top panel. The clean and simple neutral and metallic palette give the card a great masculine feel as well! Don't you love the three little gold metallic pearls on the sentiment strip at that jaunty angle? Definitely adventure seeking!

Our Featured Artist is: Heather Heroldt

Heather's lovely watercolour design left the whole design team longing for a relaxing tropical vacation! You know the kind: sun, sand, books, naps, swims, good meals, sea breezes and dips in the ocean! Who knows when we'll get to do that again, but Heather's card definitely got us all in the right mood! We loved the colours of the tropics, the watercolouring skill and the overall nostalgia she was able to evoke! Congratulations!

And we think you may want to check out the following Honorable Mentions on their sites:

Challenge #229 - Adventure Awaits

It's Theme Week, and Design Team member, Jane, had a wonderful idea, based on the desire we all have to get away from the rhythm of every day life every once in a while and take a vacation - do something different, have an adventure, try a new thing! We've all been quite restricted lately and we can't just up and do what we want, but nothing can restrict our minds and creative imagination, so what if there were no restrictions right now? What would you do with your vacation time? And while we're at it, let's just imagine away those financial restrictions, too! Go at it, friends! Let your mind come up with your dream vacation!

What are our Design Team thinking about for their vacays:

Here are some guidelines for the challenge:

  • Create any card, scrapbooking page, 3D project or packaging   project that fits the challenge.
  • Please include the challenge graphic and link back to the   challenge in your blog post. Turn off word verification so we can send you lots of feedback. Make sure you link the post not the whole blog to the Linky. Use #AYSI229 when uploading to a public gallery.

Winners for Challenge #228 - Potpourri

Thanks to all of you who took the challenge and cooked up our potpourri recipe with your cards! We enjoyed all your efforts! You are all master chefs! Here are the winners:

Our Top Pick is: Jaydee

Jaydee created such a lovely, elegant design when she put all the ingredients together for the potpourri recipe! She was subtle about them, too! The paper scrap was a larger one, and so pretty in pink! The one work sentiment was properly presented in an ornate label, and the repeat image was a series of stamped splatters! Very clever, Jaydee, and a beautiful result!

Our Featured Artist is: Heather Heroldt

Heather's humorous design had a repeat image of half-eaten cookies, speaking of recipes! What you might not know, unless you read her blog is that the one word sentiment, "Cookies" continues inside the card, reading "because adulting is hard!" We've all been in that place, I know! The Design Team loved the composition and colour palette of Heather's card, with the neutrals mirroring the chocolate chip cookies and the pops of red bringing everything to life! Well done!

And we think you may want to check out the following Honorable Mentions on their sites:

1. Susan Botham
7. dj
